From the beginning of his career over 25 years ago to his present role as driver of the No. 20 Home Depot Chevrolet in the NASCAR® NEXTEL Cup Series, Tony Stewart has proven to be a champion every step of the way. And the Indiana native has scored a total of nine driving championships since he first wheeled a go-kart at a race track in 1978.”

“Tony Stewart finished 15th in the season-ending Ford 400 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, which was good enough to earn his second NASCAR Cup Series championship in the #20 Home Depot Chevrolet for Joe Gibbs Racing.”

“It wasn’t pretty, but we got the job done tonight,” said a champagne-soaked Stewart. “We were way too tight. We would start off a little on the free side, but we could never get the balance quite right. We kept sneaking up on it, but we knew we were better off being a little too tight than a little too free, so we just made small changes.

We could have done more to be more aggressive with it, but we did what we needed to do. We just kept our mind on the big prize. We knew we didn’t have a car good enough to win tonight, so we just did what we had to do to win the championship.”
